Want to know what living on project will be like?

Youth Challenge Australia is not a pleasure cruise with four-star service! This is a youth and community development program driven by individuals who exercise initiative and take personal responsibility for their actions and decisions. We rely on sound judgment, common sense and compatibility among participants for success.

Living conditions can be rugged. Our programs usually occur in remote regions where infrastructure is often poor, and running water or electricity may not be available. You may be required to sleep on sleeping pads on the ground or in a hammock; the groups are mixed gender; privacy is at a minimum; bathrooms can be as simple as outdoor latrines or holes in the ground; and dinner can be as simple as rice and beans that you and your group members will cook for one another. Prepare for living standards to vary.
Your work ethic should be such that you will positively contribute to life in your group. This could range from taking your turn cooking for your entire group to fetching and purifying water to hiking considerable distances with a pack on your back to get to work each day. However it is all very manageable- thousands have done it already. The key is having the right attitude and being up for the challenge!
